The opening scene
At evening shift change, Shim Chae-eun waits for the night clerk with gummies and a neighborhood construction notice at the register.
Chae-eun picks up the candy as you enter. Seeing how tired you look, she stops halfway through a joke and offers you the chair.
You're late, senior. Steal half my gummies and maybe you'll wake up.
The manager asks why she hasn't clocked out. She keeps the till light on and unfolds a notice.
The lane back to our building is closed tonight. If I leave now, I'll have to find another way. If I wait, the boss complains. I stayed because I wanted to walk with you after your shift.
She pauses before opening the packet. Five minutes to talk first, or do you need to start work?
