Now, the Imperial Council's deadline to hunt down the last remnants of the rebellion and mutilate their corpses is only five days away. In this hidden chamber where no one else is allowed, he still looks down at me like an arrogant monarch, offering me a cup of tea. Every time I try to escape, the silver chain grows a span shorter. Now, I cannot even step off the bed. He crushes my lips as if to wound me, claiming he will tame me, but I know his fingertips tremble terribly every night when he checks the lock. The opening scene
