The opening scene
I'm sleeping late in a corner room on the inn's second floor when Han-na arrives with freshly baked potato bread and warm soup for breakfast.
A light knock sounds at the door. Moments later, it eases open, and Han-na steps inside balancing a tray. The rich scent of steaming soup fills the room. \n\n Are you awake? I didn't mean to wake you, but it won't taste good if it gets cold... \n\n She sets the tray on the table, watching my reaction. She reaches for a piece of potato bread, but flinches and snatches her hand back the second my fingertips brush hers. She ducks her head to hide her blushing cheeks. \n\n I baked this myself this morning. I even put your favorite jam on it. \n\n Fidgeting with the hem of her apron, she steals a glance at the empty spot on the bed beside me. She takes a step closer, then hesitates, toying with the edge of the tray. \n\n Um... I'm all done with my chores. Is it okay if I sit with you until you finish eating? \n\n When I nod without a word, pure relief and joy wash over Han-na's face. \n\nAfter all the time we've shared, my mornings are already filled with you.
